PRESS: Upper house speaker Matviyenko may leave post soon
MOSCOW, Apr 17 (PRIME) -- Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the Federation Council, the Russian parliament’s upper house, may leave her post in the coming months, Kommersant business daily reported Wednesday citing sources in government agencies.
Matviyenko’s resignation could be discussed at her meeting with President Vladimir Putin in May, several sources said.
Sergei Naryshkin, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, was named as the most probable candidate to replace Matviyenko.
A senior federal official said that Matviyenko could become head of Russia’s Pension Fund.
